Day 281 -- Sunset

Friday, June 7, 2013

When: Friday, June 7th, 2013

Where: Studio, dog park

If I'm honest, I spent most of the day in this grey oversized shirt and a pair of running shorts. But when I came time for me to disentangle myself from my studio, I replaced my dingy shorts with this swinging, flirty skirt.  A little knot at the center of my shirt tailored it to my body and made me presentable to the public.

As we were driving down Mulholland away from the dog park, we caught this amazing, dreamy sunset.  We just had to pull the car over to enjoy the view. Seeing the fog roll in over the smog-fueled orange sky reminded me why I love LA so much, and how lucky I am to live here. It was really nice to take a breather just for a second and remember why I work so hard.

Day 280 -- Inspiration

Thursday, June 6, 2013

When:  Thursday, June 6th, 2013

Where: Studio, Errands

I have been a long time fan of DVF. Her iconic prints, and signature wrap dress really define her as a designer. I often refer to her designs, work ethic, story, and evolution when I'm thinking about my own business. She started out with her wrap dress and when that became wildly popular in the 1970s, she really caught on as a designer in her own right, and was able to step out of the "Von Furstenberg" shadow and be her own woman. Shoes, bags, pants, and separates evolved out of the dress that put her on the map.

Wearing her designs makes me feel bright and happy, and really inspires me to create signature pieces and do my best to not only be a great designer, but to become the woman I was meant to be!

Day 279 -- Stressed to the Maxi

Wednesday, June 5, 2013

When: Wednesday, June 5th, 2013

Where: Studio

A maxi dress is my favorite way to feel comfortable without succumbing to sweats. On busy days, throwing on a maxi and heading straight to the studio is the fastest solution to my dressing woes. This dress, in particular, is especially great because it has so many colors it in, I have no trouble at all trying to find accessories to match.

I have a busy few weeks ahead of me! I'm trying to squeeze in some major projects, go on several gigs with Alex, and get deeper into wedding planning before going on vacation at the end of the month. I can't wait to relax in Maine, but I'm going to make sure I've earned it! Lots to do!

Day 278 -- Half Day Off

Tuesday, June 4, 2013

When: Tuesday, June 4th, 2013

Where: Out to breakfast, camera shopping, studio

First of all, can we just talk about the fact that my fiance is a PROFESSIONAL video producer, yet he can't operate an iPhone camera? Getcho hands outta the frame, dude! Just kidding, I love him. I just had to include that shot right off the bat.

This is another simple outfit, ungraded only by color and print. I know these pants are so hideous, but that's what I love about them! They make even the sloppiest outfits interesting. I've been feeling a bit bloaty this week, so throwing on an oversize tunic tee covered up any of my "problem" spots, and also kept me feeling cool and breezy in the heat!

Alex is basically elated because he finally got his hands on a Canon C100. He's been debating this purchase for a long time and now that he's finally pulled the trigger, he's pretty pumped. I'm just hoping he'll allow me access to one of his newly-downgraded cameras for my own use!

Day 276 -- Baby B

Monday, June 3, 2013

When: Monday, June 3rd, 2013

Where: Studio

I'm hatching big plans, and that means I have to spend every minute in my studio that I can. Which means, simple outfits. The less time I spend getting dressed, the more time I have to spend sewing! I'm working hard to build inventory for a photo shoot I'll be doing next week, which will in turn be posted on my new website! I'm so excited and so so busy!

I kind of love this outfit because it's baby colors. The pants say, It's a Girl! While the top screams, Bringing Home Boy! It really puts me in the mood to design maternity wear! This is another example of how color can really make the outfit. Just imagine if the jeans were blue and the top was black... Boring!

Day 275 -- Super Official

Sunday, June 2, 2013

When: Sunday, June 2nd, 2013

Where: Second night of filming ACC

After wearing many colors last night,  I quickly learned that I didn't look 'official' enough. I thought back to my high school days and remembered working on tech crew. Everyone wore black. It helped us fade into the background, and made us all look united.

I decided to echo my theatre days, and sport a little black. I couldn't go head-to-toe with one hue, so I broke it up with this great zig zag black and white tank. Wearing a more muted palette allowed me to slip in and out of doorways and along aisles without being asked for my ticket, and amazingly, I wasn't asked to fold programs!

Day 274 -- Colorful Chorale

Saturday, June 1, 2013

When: Saturday, June 1st, 2013

Where: Recording Angel City Chorale with Alex

It was my second day on the job (officially) working with Alex! Technically, I have been helping him out for a while, but this time around it felt real. This was our second time recording the Angel City Chorale. The last time we did, I wore black and looked like a member of the choir. So this time, I went for a more colorful approach, complete with comfy shoes.

I've worn this spotted Marc dress a number of times before,  and it seems I've always styled it very similarly. This marigold sweater pairs perfectly with the golden dots on the dress... And when something works, I don't mess with it! I worked in the other colors in the dress by including a pop of bright coral in my purse and belt.

I know many people consider matching your bag to your belt -- or any other accessory -- to be a fashion crime, but I still love it! A little coordination never killed anyone... Just don't match every accessory on your body!

I've also been wearing my hair up a lot lately. I'm trying to grow it out for my wedding, which has kept me from damaging it with dye, but I'm really not feeling the accidental ombre I'm rocking right now. What say ye? Should I touch it up? Go bright red again? Help!
