Day 320 -- Easy as 1 2 3

Tuesday, July 16, 2013

When: Tuesday, July 16th, 2013

Where: Meetings, Studio

I first wore this dress to work around Halloween, and while I think this dress is perfect for fall, I love the way it works in summer. The light cotton fabric and wide cut of the skirt make me feel cool. I went to a meeting in this dress and felt totally comfortable being professional as well as fashionable in it.

In other news, I'm desperately trying to grow out my hair for my wedding. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to faster growth? I'm already taking the pills, washing with the fancy shampoo, massaging my scalp, and eating fatty acids. Should I just cave and get clip in extensions?

Day 319 -- Summer Breeze

Monday, July 15, 2013

When:  Monday, July 15th, 2013

Where: Malibu

After work, Alex and I decided to take our out-of-towner friends out to Malibu to really sell them on the west coast. The weather out at the beach was about 10 degrees cooler and the water felt just fine. I wish I had brought my bathing suit, because a dip would have felt great!

This floaty maxi skirt was the perfect thing to catch the ocean breeze. I paired it with this graphic white tank to modernize the look, and completed my ensemble with some malachite gems.

Day 318 -- Animal Attraction

Sunday, July 14, 2013

When:  Sunday, July 14th, 2013

Where: Studio, Errands, Out with Friends

In order to show some visiting friends the best of Sherman Oaks (aka, just going out to the Local Peasant), I donned my favorite summer uniform. You might not be able to tell, but there are definitely some bike shorts under this fishy dress.

If it has an animal on it, you'd better believe I'm gonna buy it. This had been my biggest challenge during my year without shopping. If I see a dress with flamingos on it, and it's on sale, I'm definitely going to freak out. So, instead I wear vintage dresses with fishes on it.

Day 317 -- Back in Action

Saturday, July 13, 2013

When:  Saturday, June 13th, 2013

Where: Work at Trinkets and Treasures

It was my first day back being a shopgirl! It was fun being back in a retail environment, chatting with customers, reworking displays, and admiring baubles. It was also nice to get a chance to wear all the fancy clothing I bought to wear at Alexis Bittar.

When I started working from home, I sort of kicked myself for never investing in casual comfortable clothing. I mean, no one wants to wear a strapless taffeta dress to sit in front of a sewing machine all day. It'll be nice to break out some older, fun pieces that just hang there in my closet wanting to be loved.

Day 316 -- Inconspicuous

Friday, July 12, 2013

When: Friday, July 12th, 2013

Where: Art Share LA

Any time I'm shooting for Alex, I try to wear dark clothing and blend into the background like a techie. I tried here, but I failed. It was too hot out to wear a long sleeved black tee, and I wasn't about to be caught dead in just a pair of jeans and a black tank top.

This little grey tone elephant tank was just the perfect compromise. While this ensemble didn't draw much attention towards me as I was filming and trying to be inconspicuous, I didn't feel like a total bland loser either.

Day 315 -- Requirements

Thursday, July 11, 2013

When: Thursday, July 11th, 2013

Where: Studio

This bun-on-top-of-my-head style has been my favorite this summer. It's perfect for hair that has gone a couple days without washing, all the bloggers are doing it, and it kind of makes me look like Buddha. Those are all my usual requirements when I'm thinking about styling my hair in the morning.

This skirt is also a summer staple for me. I wore it last summer all the time. I wore it the weekend I got engaged in Philly, to a fourth of July event at my old job, and it's even made a few appearances since then. I like how it's slightly nautical, slight patriotic, slightly retro, and slightly modern at the same time. Those are also my requirements when picking out a skirt to wear. See? Fashion has rules.

Day 314 -- Hard vs Soft

Wednesday, July 10, 2013

When:  Wednesday, July 10th, 2013

Where: Studio

It's amazing what happens when I put a little effort into getting dressed and taking photos. I end up getting, like, thirty "likes" on instagram. And I like that!

But, what I like more, is feeling good and excited about what I'm wearing. I'm loving this hard/soft trend that's been going on for the past few years. Call me a Lolita, a punk, or just a girl who thinks floaty white dresses and combat boots look cute together, I don't care! This look makes me feel happy!

The best part about this outfit is that while it feels brand new to me, everything was already in my closet. Every now and again, I get that urge to go shopping -- expecially when an Urban Outfitters Surplus opens a block from my apartment, or when TJ Maxx just started their summer markdowns, or when the fall 2013 couture shows blow your mind and you instantly need to update your closet... But I'm trying so hard to remember that a) I have no money to spend of frivolous things (read: anything other than food and rent) and b) my closet is already bursting with goodies.
