Day 366 -- A Whole Year

Saturday, August 31, 2013

When: Saturday, August 31st, 2013

Where: Ikea run, Studio, Movies!

Well, I don't believe it! I made it a whole year of blogging and outfit every single day without repeating a look! High five to me.

It was another sweltering day. Alex had finally decided what storage cabinet he wanted to spend his birthday money on, and it was time to head back to Ikea to pull the trigger. We spent the whole day putting it together, and when we finished, we decided to reward ourselves by going to the movies. I brought a jacket with me in case of the off chance that it would get too cold in the theater, but this pair of shorts and light tank kept me plenty warm. Oooof!

Day 365 -- Alex's Birthday!

Friday, August 30, 2013

When: Friday, August 30th, 2013 -- Alex's Birthday!

Where: Up and down the beachy coast

Two years ago, on the eve of our cross country move, I bought this dress to wear to Alex's birthday party. Wearing this white lace dress, dancing alone to Sting in our empty apartment before the party started, we both got the feeling that this wouldn't be the last time I'd don a white frock and he'd twirl me around the room.

Alex (generously) washed this dress for me one day while I was at work last year and shrunk it pretty drastically. I couldn't bear to toss it out because of the memories it held. So when his birthday came around again, I decided to wear it one more time. It was just the right thing for the day. From blowing out the candles at midnight, to opening presents first thing in the morning, breakfast at our favorite joint, a long, leisurely drive up the coast, dipping our feet in the pacific, playing skeeball at the pier, dinner and drinks at our favorite local pub, and more cake at home, the day was absolutely perfect! Happy birthday, Alex! To many, many more together! I love you!

Day 364 -- Brutally Hot

Thursday, August 29, 2013

When: Thursday, August 29th, 2013

Where: Ikea run, Errands

On Alex's birthday eve, I snuck out while he was with a client to do some last minute shopping. When I got back, he wanted to go to Ikea to do some "pre-shopping" for some storage solutions. That's how Alex rolls, you can't just shop once. You have to see it, research it, and then come back for it.

It was brutally hot. The temperature hit well above 100 today and walking through an ice cold warehouse with a frozen yogurt in my hand could not have been more welcome! With my hair off my neck, and a breezy cotton dress I was able to survive!

Day 363 -- Double Duty

Wednesday, August 28, 2013

When: Wednesday, August 28th, 2013

Where: Work at Mimi and Hy and at Trinkets! What a day!

Have I mentioned how hot it is?! It's been hovering around 100 degrees out here in the Valley and it is simply unbearable. Knowing I had to gear up for a long, busy, hot, sweaty day, I picked out a light flowy dress and flats. It doesn't get much easier than that.

For the sake of accessorizing, I added a yellow belt to this somewhat dark outfit to give it that special summer feel. This California necklace has been a staple this summer -- I can't get dressed without it!

Day 362 -- Slippery Fish

Tuesday, August 27, 2013

When:  Tuesday, August 27th, 2013

Where: Recording Studio with Alex

This is a black dress right? Well, it's kind of black. Luckily, today at the studio, I wasn't trying to blend in with the walls, as per usual. It's so bloody hot outside that LA should really be clothing optional for the month of August. But, because that it never gonna happen, a nice swing tank dress over short bike shorts will have to do.

I'm so glad that I bought this dress. I really questioned it because I'm not really a neon kind of girl, but every single time I wear it, I get compliments on it. Talk about a confidence boost!

Day 361 -- Flaming O

Monday, August 26, 2013

When: Monday, August 26th, 2013

Where: Dinner at Jessica's place!

I spent most of my day in sweatpants and a greasy bun, but when Jessica invited Alex and me over for dinner, I felt it best to braid that dirty hair, throw on an easy tunic dress and my favorite heels and get going. Jessica is one of the most fashionable people I know, and you simply do not show up at her place in sweatpants!

My mother bought me this dress when I was in town last week, and I'm so into it! Besides it being nice just to have something different to wear, this dress is covered in flamingos! Any article of clothing with an animal on it gets a double thumbs up from me! Plus, the fit is forgiving enough to hide a huge pasta meal and a peanut butter brownie. Thanks, Jessica! (And Karisa for that brownie! I'm still drooling over that topping!)

Day 360 -- Summer Trend

Sunday, August 25, 2013

When: Sunday, August 25th, 2013

Where: Studio

Phew! It is hot out there! Time to deploy the sheer tropical floral shirt and white shorts! I have to say, I love this outfit. It's a really good balance of style trend, and comfort for me. I was able to stay moderately cool in this look, but better yet, I felt cool.

It's amazing what a good outfit can do to my mood. Even though I was working on a Sunday, I felt awesome! It's been so hard for me to feel on trend during my year without shopping, but having acquired most of this outfit for free over the past few months, I got to participate in that summer shorts and fun top thing that's been going on lately.

Day 359 -- Young Professional

Saturday, August 24, 2013

When: Saturday, August 24th, 2013

Where: Tailoring Meeting

Whenever I meet a new client, I do my best to make a good first impression. Sad though it may be, we judge other people on the way they look. It happens in a split second before you even know it. And looking my best weighs especially heavy on me since I work in the fashion world.

I think a pencil skirt always looks professional and put-together. This skirt is new to me! This mixed print stripey floral beauty is one of my spoils from my baby shopping spree with Mom. I love this new piece! And, if you know me at all, you know I love belts. This one works especially well because the pop of red ties in with the flowers on the skirt and breaks up the solid navy look of the top running into the skirt. Plus, it defines my waist! What could be better?

Day 358 -- Simple Outfit

Friday, August 23, 2013

When: Friday, August 23rd, 2013

Where: Studio

After a busy week, it was time to hunker down in my studio. A simple outfit would do.

On these hot summer days, a light linen dress feels so good. Usually, I tie a belt around the middle of the dress, but wearing any additional layers, no matter now small, was just too much for me!

Day 357 -- Stylistically Compatible

Thursday, August 22, 2013

When: Thursday, August 22nd, 2013

Where: Meeting our wedding photographer, miscellaneous couple errands

I rarely get a chance to dress up these days, so when I was presented with the chance to put on my best duds, even to what would seem to be the ordinary task of meeting a wedding vendor, I jumped. But! Let me tell you, it was a thrill. We met with Heidi Ryder at her adorable home office, and it was fabulous! When we came in, she offered us water (which certainly welcome on a ninety degree day) and cookies. She was so sweet and welcoming, and I'm so excited to work with her in the future. Check out her blog. Cuuuuuuute!

When I walked in her door, she complimented me on my dress. Why, thank you! This is truly one of my favorite pieces of all time. I lusted over it for many months and finally took the plunge with my Anthro birthday coupon. I would buy this dress again a hundred times over... As well as the rest of Charlotte Taylor's animal collection.

After we left her house, which was perfectly decorated with mid century furniture (further proof that we are stylistically compatible), we headed to Fry's electronics. Blah blah boring blah, Alex bought a thing and he was happy. On our way out, however, we stumbled on this amazing prop house which was selling off some of its wares. Thoroughly in a sixties mood care of Ms. Ryder, we wandered through the lot until we came across the most adorable peg-legged mod console unit -- perfect for our TV. A little back and forth and it was ours! Here's to a great outfit leading to a great day!

Day 356 -- Cyclist

Wednesday, August 21, 2013

When: Wednesday, August 21st, 2013

Where: Studio, Work at Trinkets

This is me the day after working a shoot until 2 am, not feeling well, and still trying to pull myself together to go to work.

This is the best I could come up with: a knotted bicycle printed tee and a stretch knit pencil skirt. At least I matched my shoes to my top.

Day 355 -- Work Out

Tuesday, August 20, 2013

When:  Tuesday, August 20th, 2013

Where: Studio with Alex

Another day shooting for Alex, another dark outfit. You'd think it'd be easy for me to find tons of tres chic all black outfits in my closet, and I probably could, but the key to these shooting outfits in comfort. I found myself squatting sideways next to a drumset as well as crawling on the floor more than once in this outfit. When I shoot, I need to know for certain that I would be giving anyone a free show or splitting my pants in the process.

These dark wash jeans have proved to be a go-to for me when it comes to comfort and function. They are so stretchy that I could probably work out in them... Which coincidentally is exactly what it feels like to work in the studio for 12 hours straight.

Day 354 -- I've Got the Blues

Monday, August 19, 2013

When: Monday, August 19th, 2013

Where: Selvedge Yard in Berkeley, Dinner in Santa Cruz

Well, the weekend came and went, and it was time to head back to LA. As a last Bay Area hurrah, we headed up the Berkeley to visit Alex's favorite architectural selvedge yard. If and when we build or remodel our first home, we want to hit up this place and stock up on ornate doors, vintage sinks, retro stoves, and reclaimed wood. Can't wait!

On our way out of town, we stopped by the beach to grab some Hawaiian food and amazing ice cream, with my bestie and twinzie, Brett. In true twin form, we both wore blue! Check her out killin' it in this lace dress! And that streak of pink in her hair? To dye for! (haha)
