Day 30 -- White Stripes

Sunday, September 30, 2012
I've made it though a month without repeating an outfit! I'm so proud because more than once I wanted to breakdown and wear an old favorite.

I've only worn this dress once before and looking at this photo, I'm starting to think that maybe it's not the worst thing in my closet. I definitely wanted to take it off and wear my yellow lace dress today, but that was not an option.

I wore a pair of neutral earrings and a bib necklace to play up the vintage vibe of this look. Not the pencil.

Of course, no working outfit of mine would be completely without a bangle stack to match. Here, I present my black and white stripes to mimic the chevron stripes of my dress.

Day 29 -- Peep This!

Saturday, September 29, 2012
Thanks to the new displays at Alexis Bittar Venice, life just got a bit more interesting.

I now work in a strip joint that has animals wearing jewelry! It's amazing!

Okay, not really. The new displays in our shop reflects Alexis' two passions -- Times Square circa 1980 and taxidermy. Put them together and what do you get?

A bunch of neon signs and Kudu with clip earrings on!

.. And me. Wearing a striped dress from F21 (so embarrassing how often I have to post that on this blog), a thrifted yellow python belt and spiffy and safari appropriate pair of leopard flats.

And let's not forget about the gems of course. These crysoprase earrings perfectly matched the green in my dress, and I even made a striped bangle stack!

Day 28 -- Working Girl

Friday, September 28, 2012
Here's me working on some super top secret business plans.

I just so happen to be wearing the first full-priced item I ever bought from Urban Outfitters six years ago -- striped racerback tank, and a black pencil mini skirt.

I worry that if I worked from home I might slip into get ups like this every day. Luckily it's back to the shop tomorrow and likely a more lovely look.

Oh, and please don't mind the mess. :)

Day 27 -- A Boston Revival

I guess I was too busy actually enjoying my day of yesterday to remember to post to my blog.

Perhaps it was the undercurrent of shame I felt from wearing this ensemble in public that kept me from exposing myself to further ridicule.

This outfit made me feel like I was back in Boston, on my way to my Monday morning metal smithing class. This had become a uniform for me.

Cargo skinnies, v neck sweater and keds -- it couldn't get more boring, could it?

My apologies.

Day 26 -- Black and Brown

Wednesday, September 26, 2012
It finally felt like fall for the first time today. It was all foggy and overcast in Studio City this morning, so I reached into my winter wardrobe and pulled out this pair of leather-look pants that I got a couple months ago when fall collections started being carried in stores.

It's amazing how preppy this look turned out considering that the foundation of it all is leather pants! I've been trying to figure out what defines my style lately. My style is very eclectic, but I'd say the best way to sum it up is... Retro with a bright, funky twist.

That being said, this outfit doesn't seem like me at all! I mean, it's pants!!

I tried to soften the blow with some neutrals like this striped shirt (which, oh shit, I'm realizing I wore somewhere around day 16), and some brown jewelry.

The finishing touch were these leopard flats I've been loving.

I'm surprised how much I like these. I was never an animal print person, but look how cute these are!

Day 25 -- That's a Wrap (Dress)!

Tuesday, September 25, 2012
I'm starting to have serious problems getting dressed in the morning. I feel myself reaching for those trusty old pieces rather than trying to find something I haven't worn yet. Knowing that I have at least %75 of my wardrobe to chew through before I can return to my favorites has me a little spooked. Just in time for Halloween.

I found this DVF wrap dress crumpled up on the bottom of my closet floor and I knew I had to give it a shot. Even though this dress is comfortable, bright and by one of my favorite designers, I don't wear it too often. Probably because in the back of my mind I think it's a bit too sweet and classic.

I wore this dress for my college graduation and its funny turning something that felt like such a big deal to wear, into just an everyday piece.

I tried to echo the floral print of my dress in my bangle stack today. Get it? It's a flower! See the stem and petals? It's a stretch. Okay, I get it.

Thanks to Jess for taking these pics and for making me giggle. Everything a girl could want in a BFF.

Day 24 -- 15 Hour Dress

Monday, September 24, 2012
I needed an outfit that would take me from a 9 am meeting, all the way through an entire work day at the shop, and then onto karaoke late into this night.

This little buddy has been draped over my dresser for the last month, and today was the day! He was finally making his re-appearance.

The print of this dress is really fun. It's got little tigers and zebras on it, mixed with geometirc and animal print patterns. The body-con style is a little bit sexy, so I toned it down with a theory blazer and a light infinity scarf Mrs. Chaloff gave me.

It was the perfect place to stick a panther pin. Yet another animal to join the party!

We sang late into the night. My feet were a little sore because of the slight wedge on my lace up booties -- my feet are not used to any kind of heel!
Here's me and my boss's boss, Naowna, seranading each other to the tune of "Do You Know The Way to San Jose?" Hey, that's almost my hometown!

All in all, I'd say this outfit was a success. It definitely stood up to the all day wear test.

Day 23 -- Autumn Longing

Sunday, September 23, 2012
Today I was really having one of those I-have-nothing-to-wear mornings. I tried on 2 dresses, but they just didn't feel right. It's supposed to be fall, but none of my fall dresses were working for me.

It's still super hot out and I knew I didn't want to spend the day in a high-necked, albeit sleeveless, circle skirted, multilayered silk wool blend plaid dress. So I dug around and I pulled out two pieces that I haven't worn this whole year of living in LA.

This Roberto Cavalli skirt is really difficult to wear. While it has a plethora of colors in it, it's hard to coordinate it with anything else. I keep thinking I'll sell it or something, but I can't seem to part with it. This baby retails for well over $1000, I got it for such a good deal, it's really unfair. I think I paid about $15 for it. Maybe that's why I can't get rid of it, it's such such a good example of what you can thrift if you try!

I had to really hunt to find a top to wear with it. This burnt orange blouse is really a thigh-length tunic, but it was the only top I could manage to make work! At least the light silk cools me down.

I pulled some colorful Alexis Bittar bangles to wear with this skirt today. I think these earthy tones look great with the floral!

Last, but definitely not least, I popped these Elizabeth and James beauties on my feet. It took me a while to figure out what to wear to work this time, I was about to run late, so I had to run down the street in my heels. And it wasn't cute.

Day 22 -- LBD (little blue dress)

Saturday, September 22, 2012
This guy is such a staple in my closet I actually have it in two colors! This royal blue lace is so comfortable and flattering, I find myself saying, "You can't wear that AGAIN!" This dress could carry me from day to night and is totally seasonless.

Today is indeed the first day of fall, and if it were colder out, I might have worn this with tights, boots and a cardigan, but in this land without seasons, a pair of leopard flats and a beige belt suit me fine.

Today also marks 1 year since I moved to Los Angeles. Living here has been really wonderful and I still feel like its new! With so much to explore in a large city, I feel like I'm still getting used to it. And I know I'll never get used to the traffic!

No work outfit is complete without a bangle stack. I stuck to the blue theme and layered them on!

Day 21 -- Retrospect

Friday, September 21, 2012
For the Alexis Bittar Retrospective party we hosted at the store I work for, I went for a retro look with a touch of sleek modernity.

Day 20 -- Orange You Glad I Didn't Day Banana?

Thursday, September 20, 2012

Did a little grocery shopping today. I felt it only appropriate to wear my banana earrings from TopShop.

I also bought my very first animal printed item ever in life. I'm proud to sport these new rocket dog leopard print flats. They're a great way to mix prints, because leopard can be considered very neutral. I'm still trying to decide if they are 'me,' but hey, it's fun to walk in someone else's shoes. Ha.

This polka dot dress shrunk a little too much in the wash, rendering it work-inappropriate, but this shorter hemline is great for when it feels like summer is at its peak in the beginning of fall...

My go to Kelly green Kate Spade cross body held my shopping list, and, of course, added a little pop of color to my look!

Day 19 -- Honor Roll

Wednesday, September 19, 2012
Here's me.. You know, at the back door of the Troubadour waiting for the boys of Honor Society to show up. Sometimes being the recording engineer's lady has its perks.

Knowing I was likely about to be surrounded by (screaming) high school girls, I tried to dress like the cool girl I never was at 16.

A screen tee gifted to me by my soon-to-be mother-in-law, paired with a striped skirt from F21 that reminds me a bit of a catholic school girls' topped off with some keds did the trick.

Wish me and my ear drums luck! The show's about to start!

Day 18 -- Going Greek

Tuesday, September 18, 2012
I never had the chance to pledge for Greek life in college -- nor would I ever want to, but I definitely have a flair for classic Grecian draping.

This one-shouldered wonder cost me pennies at a second hand shop, but I've gotten tons of use out of it!

I love the abundance of fabric in the skirt and subtle gathering at the bodice.

Cinching it tight at the waist (with a belt I made to go with my bridal design in college!) really makes this dress look like its belongs on a marble carving of Aphrodite or something.

These pewter sandals really add the finishing touch to this ancient times look, don't you think?

Also, check out this woven bacon BL(A)T I made for dinner last night. I'm a little proud. I didn't go to fashion school for nothing!!

Day 17 -- a case of the mondays

Monday, September 17, 2012
Look. Here's me in that All Saints dress I wear when I'm feeling lazy.

And I'm wearing a pair of DV sandals with tassels on them!

Ain't life grand?

Day 16 -- Rosh Hashana!

Sunday, September 16, 2012
I worked all day in this floral Theory dress...

Then dropped everything at the door...

And slaved away in the kitchen (for three hours!) making a beautiful Rosh Hashana dinner.

I made matzo ball soup, hamentaschen, challah, and even served apples with honey!

Shana Tova!

Day 15 -- I Wanna Ride My Bike

Saturday, September 15, 2012
There you have it, readers, the first day of my third week doing this!

I'm wearing a Jason Wu for Target permapleated black skirt with a natural waist and the same sandals I worse yesterday (shame on me!), with this new tee I got at Urban Outfitters... with BIKES on it!

Alex actually really liked this outfit, and his the only opinion I really care about, so I think this outfit is a winner despite how low-key I feel in it.
