Day 242 -- Edible Arrangement

Tuesday, April 30, 2013

When: Tuesday, April 30th, 2013

Where: To work at Industry of All Nations

I was feeling a bit quirky as I got dressed, and I was aching for the sun to come out and make it feel like summer! This skirt just seems perfectly springy-summer to me, though I have worn it in the winter. I actually love the way I wore it last time -- it makes the skirt stand out so much!

This pineapple sweater is just funky and bright enough to set this outfit off in a silly, fun direction. Why not wear fruit and flowers together? I'm like a walking edible arrangement.

Day 241 -- You Look So Nice Today

Monday, April 29, 2013

When: Monday, April 29th, 2013

Where: To work at Industry of All Nations

You can tell I worked a long hard day by the sweaty sheen on my face and my tucked-untucked shirt. Classy, eh? I actually got a lot of compliments when I walked into the office this morning in this outfit. Obviously it's because this is my most responsible looking ensemble (that I've worn to this job so far).

I don't know if you can tell, dear reader, but I think this outfit screams, "Oh crap, it's Monday, I'm tired, and I want to wear all jersey knits." I kind of just threw this look together, but I think the pencil silhouette does wonders for looking like I tried. Yay? Nay?

Day 240 -- Pink in the Park

Sunday, April 28, 2013

When: Sunday, April 28th, 2013

Where: Studio, Lake Hollywood Park

Check out Bucket's new friend! Okay, now check out my outfit! Both really cute, right?

It was so hot and I was just trying to stay cool. This breezy pink skirt was just poking out of my closet like "wear me... wear me," so I didn't say no. I wanted to style it like a dress, so I matched this pink tank to it, and wrapped a belt around my waist. I've literally never worn these shoes, but I'm so into them all of a sudden. I found them in a box on the side of the street one drunken night in Northampton with my sister, and since they were so free, I grabbed them! I'm glad I did because now that I'm not shopping, it can at least feel like I have.

Day 239 -- The Assistant

Saturday, April 27, 2013

When: Saturday, April 27th, 2013

Where: San Diego for a music video shoot with Alex

Once again, I neglected to plan an outfit the night before an early morning, and I was left fumbling through my closet at 6 am trying to find something I wouldn't sweat in too much. I think I did pretty well, if I'm truly honest.

This is a variation of an outfit I used to wear to Alexis Bittar all the time. Since jeans were never allowed at my old job, I avoided them, and went with trousers. But when you're assisting your fiance, there is no dress code! Okay, maybe there still is because you need to look at least somewhat professional in front of clients, but let's just say, jeans we acceptable.

Day 238 -- Repurposed

Friday, April 26, 2013

When: Friday, April 26th, 2013

Where: Studio

Sometimes, your day off is also your first day back at work, you know? I had a few errands to run and some catch up to play in my studio, so I kind of got dress really quick with whatever I spotted first. I have a lot of laundry to do, so most of my pieces hanging clean in my closet are my second-string wardrobe items.

This skirt, for example, is really a micromini tube dress, appropriate only for booty droppin' at the club, and wearing to your old retail job, apparently. I knew the length wouldn't work for pushing a cart around the grocery store, so I shimmied it down my body and wore it like a pencil skirt. This white blouse was (almost) the perfect way to finish off this outfit, except for I always feel guilty for trying to get away with mixing navy and black details in a non-purposeful way. Oh well.

Day 237 -- Native Nation

Thursday, April 25, 2013

When: Thursday, April 25th, 2013

Where: Work at Industry

After two days in a row of boring jeans outfits, I wanted to wear a dress... It was a bit overcast when I woke up and I also knew that a mini skirt wouldn't fly at an office. (Also, I'm the only girl, so I try not to dress too "girly." Gotta blend in!)

On my first day, Fernando gifted me this awesome belt -- called a faja -- and I was super inspired by it. I pulled this sweater out of the very back of my closet where it has been hanging since my trip to Europe two years ago, because I thought the pattern in the knit would go with the belt really well. I used this maxi dress as a backdrop for the main pieces, and finished the look with leopard flats, of course.

Day 236 -- Up and at 'Em!

Wednesday, April 24, 2013

When: Wednesday, April 24th, 2013

Where: My second day at Industry

I forgot how working a "real" job could be so exhausting! After getting back from mt first day of work, walking Bucket, and making dinner, I was beat! I went straight to bed and even over slept my alarm the next morning!

This outfit is the result of having only 15 minutes to dress, pour a cup of coffee and leave the house. I have so say, I think I did pretty well, considering. Even though this is just a simple jeans-tee-flats outfit, the neon denim, patterned tee, a fresh shoes make it feel a bit more "styled." This is a good outfit to fall back on.

Day 235 -- Joining the Workforce

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

When: Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013

Where: My new job at Industry of All Nations

So, I guess the cat's out of the bag... I got a new job! I'm still working on Expect, but when the offer came down from Industry to lend and hand, I couldn't say no. Industry of All Nations is a really awesome brand that markets eco-friendly, handmade international products in the US.

This is how excited I am to work there! On first days of anything -- school, work, date -- I don't usually like to take huge fashion risks. It's a sad truth, but people do judge you by the way you dress and look. I don't want to put off a new employer by wearing something nutzo, but I do want to be myself. I knew that it was a casual work environment, so I opted for jeans, which felt really safe, but I added my own touch with the mirror print tank, and signature California necklace.

Day 234 -- New To Me

Monday, April 22, 2013

 When: Monday, April 22nd, 2013

Where: Studio

Jessica and I got together over the weekend, and she was kind enough to bring me a pile of cast off clothing from a recent closet clean out. Most of it I plan on cutting up and refashioning -- don't worry, there will be posts about all that -- but this little sweater was too cute to destroy.

I really wish I had had the presence of mind to photograph the back of it. It has the coolest hand-beaded house with flowers on it! I'll definitely wear it again, and I'll be sure to snap a pic of this sweater's best feature. Other than being excited to wear a new piece of clothing after more than four months without shopping, this outfit is pretty simple. I chose this solid tube dress and pale pink sandals to let this sweater shine like the star it is!

PS... I have some pretty exciting news this week, but I won't reveal it until I'm sure that it'll stick.

Day 233 -- Summery Shorts

Sunday, April 21, 2013

When: Sunday, April 21st, 2013

Where: Studio, helping Alex at the Blue Whale

I'm not the hugest shorts wearer, but these ones are starting to come into regular rotation. Maybe they're a bit mumsy or momsy, but paired with a crop top, there could be no better outfit for a hot day. It already feels like summer here in the Valley... I'm starting to get worried about what actual summer is going to feel like!

In other news, Alex and I are starting to launch into full wedding planning mode. Crazy to think that it's coming up so soon -- we're 256 days away! Eeep. There is so much to do but I'm really excited for cake tasting, planning the menu, making my dress, making bridesmaid dresses, and on and on and on. Can't wait to be a wife!

Day 232 -- Dearly Dotted

Saturday, April 20, 2013

When: Saturday, April 20th, 2013

Where: Studio

When I woke up, I realized that my bangs had finally become actual side-bangs. I knew I wanted to style my hair up and show off my longer fringe, so I went with a birds-nesty top knot, and based the rest of my outfit around my updo.

It topped out around 85 degrees, so a light jersey tank dress was the perfect choice. Rather than style this MARC dress with the sash it came with as I have in the past, I chose a nude leather belt, and for the first time, went out sans sweater. It felt great.

I've had these vintage Italian sandals for years, but they don't get worn very often because I'm worried I'll damage them. I brought them out because I felt they deserved a day in the sun. There's no point in hiding your favorite pieces in order to keep them pristine -- you should enjoy them!

Day 231 -- Sunny Skies

Friday, April 19, 2013

When: Friday, April 19th, 2013

Where: Registering at Crate and Barrel

Even though I feel like the concept of registering for gift is a very strange one -- it's like saying to your wedding, "Hey, you'd better give me a gift, and while you're at it, don't make it a crappy one!" But I realize the usefulness of a registry. If my wedding guests want to give us a gift to congratulate us on our nuptials, it'd be nice to get something we starving artists can really use and enjoy. I'm trying to view this whole process as not being greedy, but being... traditional. In any case, it was fun!

It's been a rough week all around for Alex and I, so it was nice to don a summery dress and get out of the house for a while. The weather is really starting to warm up, and nautical stripes feel so breezy and light on a bright day. I pulled some yellow pieces into my look to highlight the yellow piping on this dress, and threw my kelly green Kate Spade over my shoulder. The saleslady at C&B complimented me on my colors, and a five-year-old run up to me and yelled, "Ooooh I love lipstick!!" It was so flattering!

Day 230 -- Inspired

Thursday, April 18, 2013

When: Thursday, April 18th, 2013

Where: Studio

I'm not gonna lie: as I was watching Bravo's It's A Brad Brad World, I became totally inspired by the Kate Spade look. KS is one of my current favorite brands. I've never considered myself to be pretty, but this season's quirky spin and retro vibe was right up my alley. The strongest detail I took away from viewing the collection was the beaded Peter Pan collars.

I wanted to run right out and load up on short sleeve sweaters, little black dresses, and cap sleeve blouses with the beaded collar detail. But that is not an option for me right now. So I went to my own closet to recreate the look. It's a common fashion "rule" that navy and black can't go together, but I love that combo. So long as it's done with purpose, it can totally work. This navy sweater shirt with black cap sleeves was the perfect base for my pearly beaded collar necklace. I completed the look with a black pleated skirt -- so retro! -- and navy keds. I felt very KS and very me!
